Akismet is a plug-in to our site available to you if you chose to activate it with this code

2ac0f7deb572

What Akismet will do for you is counter most of the automated script/spam to the comments of your post.

It is not perfect however, so you need to keep an eye on it till you see how well it is working. It is like a national database for these spam posts or like a spam scanner.

Once in a while (or worse) you may see posts to your comments like “Great post, do you have anything more on this”. This is very generic and if you moderate your comments, this would not be one to allow unless you know the user who posted it.

This would be true of any post where nothing specific is mentioned about what was in the post. Granting the post will no doubt enable them to send the next one without moderation and spam you with adds for Viagra or worse in your comments area. This can be tiresome for you if you have many posts.

We suggest you use the Akismet and keep your eye on it for a while till you see how good a job it is doing for you.

Good comments do get caught-up. They call that “Ham”, so you need to look for “Ham” in the Akismet once in a while to not offend a comment from a real person. Teaching the application what is good when it makes a mistake will make it more accurate as time goes on much like a spam mail catcher.

This is just a extra we wish you to have available to make your BeagleHunters.com site easier. But if it is not doing well for you in your first 30 posts, you probably should deactivate it.

Simply defined a “PERMALINK” is a web link or html link to a page or article from the site that contains all the information to take a user to the exact post/page and does not change even if the post or page is updated.

Use Example:

I had read an article from a site I thought was interesting or informative and wanted to refer to it in my website or blog and wanted readers to be able to go directly to that article and read it for themselves.

How to use:

Within the Beagle Hunters.Com website, you can “right click” on the “title” of any post or page and select “copy” or “copy link” (this will contain the permalink info) and paste it to the address of a “HYPERLINK” of your post.

So what is a hyperlink ?

Text (or photo) that contains special information that will cause the users browser to jump to the address of that information when clicked by user.

Putting Links/Hyperlinks/Permalinks in your post

While in your post/page editor and editing in “visual mode” (see tabs on right side of editor), First you must select the text you want to insert the link to by clicking and dragging the mouse to highlight the text you wish to insert the link on. Then you will see a icon of a single chain link as a button on the top of the visual editing menu. When you click this link button, a box appears to allow you to enter the link information in the site url section. This is where you insert the link/hyperlink/permalink. If you used a method above to copy the link, you can “right click” inside the site url box and select “paste”.

The next option that is important is the “target”. If you wish to have the link open in a new browser window or tab, select “open in a new window” (target=blank) option. We suggest this method to keep the user from losing his spot on your page. Otherwise the link will open in the current window and visitor will need to use the back on their browser to return to you. Update/Save or Save Draft.

The link will normally show as blue or underlined text

This is all dependent on theme settings as to color and style user has selected.

You may use this method from posts within the system with the PERMALINKS or “right click” and “copy” the address from the url (browser address) of the page anywhere on the web to post as a hyperlink.

There are other methods and options but this is the limit of the tutorial as it will be all most of you will use in your posts. If you are more advanced, you can switch to the html editor tab and insert the commands directly if you wish. For those interested in html editing, you might do your link in visual editor and switch to html mode just to have a look at what the code looks like but don’t fool around in html editor if you do not know what you are doing and you do not wish to re-write the post. Create a post just for experimenting with html and delete it when done.

1st – (for security reasons) Please do not Try to embed anything other

than YouTube Video or WMV (windows media video) from a hosted site !

Originally I thought I could find a video on YouTube that would explain this for you but…

After watching several dozen videos , I did not see one that had correct information.

So this weird way of explaining it should get’r done!

1- Go to the YouTube video page where your video is posted. Normally to the right hand top area you will see two little rectangular boxes with text inside. On the left of those small boxes, one of them says URL and under that one says “embed”.

2-”Left Click” in the embed box once and the text will be highlighted.

3-”Right Click” on the highlghted text in the embed box and then select “copy”

4-Switch to your blog page where you should be ready to insert this into your post.

5-Go to spot in post/page where you want to insert the video and type a xx (this is so you may find it in next step)

6-Click on the HTML tab of the blog post/page editor (things might look weird as you are looking at the code & text)

7-Find the xx you created in the text and click just past your xx so curser is in correct spot.

8-”Right Click” in that spot and select “Paste”

9-Switch back to Visual mode by clicking “Visual” in the editor.

10-Erase the xx you created to mark the spot.

you can now select the embeded object (by clicking on it) for positioning left, right, center as you would with any text and can now finish typing your post/page and update/publish your post.

Once you have done this several times, you probably will understand enough that you will not need to mark the spot with the xx. Be sure NOT to insert/paste the embed code inside any html tags < >

This is a unorthodox way of explaining it but it should get the Job Done!.

If you wanted to just create a link to the web page with the YouTube video, just copy the “url” from the YouTube post instead of the embed code and select the the text in your post you wish to make it link from by clicking/dragging your mouse and select the “link” (chain link on your editor) and paste the url text just like any hyperlink but you may want to also select “open in a new page” (target=_blank) so it opens in a new browser tab/window This will keep you site page up so user does not get lost from it while they enjoy the link you are sending them to.

This same video using a link as mentioned above.
